Alvin arrived at the shelter as a stray and had most likely never experienced positive interaction with people prior to coming into our care. Upon arrival, Alvin was not microchipped or desexed, and unfortunately required extensive dental surgery - all while trying to navigate an unfamiliar environment filled with people he wasn’t sure he could trust.

Since arriving, staff have spent countless hours working patiently with Alvin, helping him slowly build confidence and learn that people can be safe and kind. While he has made incredible progress during his time with us, Alvin has begun to plateau within the shelter environment and we believe he would greatly benefit from continuing his journey in a calm and stable foster home.

Alvin is looking for a very special foster carer - someone experienced in socialising timid or undersocialised cats who understands the importance of patience, routine, and allowing a cat to settle at their own pace. We expect Alvin may require a longer-term foster placement of approximately 3–6 months, or potentially ongoing until he finds his forever home.

To help him feel secure, we would recommend initially setting Alvin up in a small, contained space such as a crate or quiet room while he adjusts to his new surroundings. Although Alvin is still unsure about pats and direct handling, he absolutely loves food and treats are without a doubt the quickest way to win his heart.

One of Alvin’s favourite activities is shared playtime with the other cats at the shelter, and because of this, he would thrive in a home with another friendly, outgoing, and confident feline companion who can help show him the ropes of home life and continue building his confidence.

Alvin’s ideal foster home will be a quiet, understanding environment where he can continue progressing at his own pace with compassionate guidance and gentle encouragement. Watching timid cats like Alvin slowly learn to feel safe and comfortable is an incredibly rewarding experience for the right person.
