Bear is a big lovable dog who endears himself to everyone he meets – both humans and canines (but not felines) He joined Save A Dog Scheme just over 2 months ago and no doubt would have found his forever home very quickly if it had not been for the fact that he has torn his cruciate ligament and is need of an operation. The operation in itself is not complex but finding a foster/permanent home that can cater to Bear’s recuperation needs has been more of a challenge. When Bear first arrived at the shelter he was a big calm gentle giant and it was thought he would convalesce easily. He was placed in a foster home to adjust before his operation took place. While in the foster home we saw another side of Bear! Still loveable but now far more energetic which does not bode well for his recovery. We postponed his surgery deciding it would be best to find him a permanent adoption where he could settle and become well adjusted and then look to his operation in the future. He is searching for a home where he will be the only dog as he needs to be prevented from exercise while in his recuperation period which could be anything from 6 – 12 weeks. He will also need a home without stairs (1 or 2 outside steps should not be a problem) and a human companion who is around most of the time to keep an eye on him. The correct recovery is paramount, as if the ligament does not heal correctly, it could cause more harm than good. Bear is toilet trained and is quite calm and well behaved when given direction and under supervision. His veterinary specialist in Camberwell so a home not too far from the area may make ongoing vet visits easier. All vet costs will be at the expense of Save A Dog Scheme If you feel you can help Bear please call Margie on 0418 389 810
